Nina Ottosson Dog Tornado Puzzle Review (2026)

Dog Tornado has three spinning compartments with bone-shaped blockers at Level 2 difficulty. Most dogs take 5-15 minutes to solve it completely. It's the ideal step up from basic food puzzles for dogs who need more mental challenge.

How It Works

Three spinning tiers each have 3 treat compartments covered by spinning discs. Bone blockers must be removed before the discs spin. Dogs learn to remove blockers first, then spin the layer. Level 2 means two steps to each reward — more cognitive engagement than a basic lick mat.

Average Solve Times

Beginner dogs: 15-25 minutes. Experienced puzzle dogs: 3-8 minutes. Once your dog solves it quickly, increase difficulty by using less fragrant treats, or layer the Tornado inside a larger puzzle for added challenge.

Quick verdict

What we love
  • Level 2 challenge appropriate for most adult dogs
  • BPA-free, dishwasher-safe plastic
  • Bone-shaped blockers add an extra removal step
Heads up
  • Doesn't engage dogs beyond the solve — no sustained chewing
  • Not for power chewers who will destroy it
✓ Buy it if…

Dogs who've mastered Level 1 puzzles and need the next challenge. Average dogs, not power chewers.

✕ Skip it if…

Dogs who get frustrated easily — start with Dog Smart (Level 1) instead.

Tucker's bottom line

The best puzzle toy at the mid-level. Buy Dog Smart first if your dog is new to puzzles, Tornado once they've mastered it.
