Vetericyn Plus Wound Care Review (2026)

Vetericyn Plus uses hypochlorous acid, the same oxidative compound produced by white blood cells. It kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi without damaging healthy tissue or stinging — unlike hydrogen peroxide and iodine, which damage the cells needed for wound healing.

Why Not Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was the standard wound care for decades. Problem: it damages fibroblasts — the cells that lay down new tissue. Using H2O2 on wounds cleans bacteria but simultaneously slows healing. Hypochlorous acid kills pathogens with the same mechanism white blood cells use, without the collateral tissue damage.

Hot Spot Protocol

Clean the hot spot with Vetericyn 2-3 times daily. Remove matted fur around the wound. Keep the area dry between applications. Most minor hot spots resolve in 3-5 days with consistent cleaning. If the hot spot grows, smells strongly, or doesn't improve in 3 days, see a vet — secondary infection may require antibiotics.

Quick verdict

What we love
  • Hypochlorous acid kills bacteria without damaging tissue
  • No stinging — animals don't resist application
  • No antibiotic resistance development
  • Safe to spray near eyes, nose, and ears
Heads up
  • Surface-only — doesn't penetrate deep wounds
  • Doesn't replace veterinary care for infected or deep wounds
✓ Buy it if…

Minor cuts, scrapes, hot spots, skin irritation, and post-surgery incision care (as directed by vet).

✕ Skip it if…

Deep puncture wounds, bite wounds, wounds with pus, or any wound that hasn't stopped bleeding — these need veterinary evaluation.

Tucker's bottom line

Keep a bottle in your pet first aid kit permanently. Superior to hydrogen peroxide for all surface wound care.

Common questions

Can I use it on cats?
Yes — it's safe for all species. The bottle says 'All Animal.'
Does it expire?
2-year shelf life from production date. The hypochlorous acid degrades over time — check the expiration date.
